Skeleton Nails Tutorial!

Why hello there! It's been a few days since I posted, but I am back with another tutorial today. :)  I did some cute skeleton nails on myself and on my lovely sister-in-law and now you can do them too!

Aren't these just adorable! I think they are great and they work perfectly for both Halloween, which is tomorrow, and for Dia de los Muertos, which is the day after!

Before we begin I am going to tell you the colors that I used, but feel free to use whatever colors you feel like. I went for the more metallic colors.

 For the Twill of It

Trophy Wife

No Place Like Chrome

Penny Talk

The Lace is On

And you are also going to need a black nail striper, any white polish, and the largest dotting tool.

Okay, now let's begin! First just start by painting all of your nails, I just did mine randomly and all different.

Next, I used the dotting tool and some black polish to dot on the base of the eyes on all of the nails. They aren't supposed to be straight and perfect, they are meant to be messy and lopsided and cute!

Now time to finish off the eyes. Take the dotting tool again and some white polish and dot on the second layer of the eyes. These are also supposed to be messy and not perfect. You don't have to dot them directly in the center of the black, they can be lopsided.

And then the last and final steps are to use the black nail striper to paint on the little nose and the skeleton mouth! Just make two little slits for the nose and then draw on one horizontal line for the mouth, then 3-4 vertical lines to make it have that stitched look.

And now just top it off with a top coat. I always use my favorite, Essie's Good to Go Top coat.

And that's all you have to do to create this cute design! It's a super easy and simple design that looks good around fall and Halloween time.

Thanks so much for reading this tutorial and I hope you try it out. Be sure to send my pics of how your nails turned out and what colors you ended up using. If you have any other comments or questions please leave them below and I will be sure to reply to you! Scarecrow Stitched Nail Tutorial :))

Time for another nail tutorial! Yayyy!! So for Halloween this year I decided to be a scarecrow and you can't complete your costume without matching nails, right? So, I began searching around Pinterest and these are what I came up with.

When I first started to do them, I wasn't too happy with how they were looking, but the final end product turned out really well and I ended up loving them! They look like somebody stitched them up.
Now these ones were more on the difficult side than other tutorials that I have done, but they are definitely doable. It just takes practice, patience, and a steady hand.

These are the polishes that you will need for this nail design:
-A purple nail polish, I used Haphazard by Formula X
-A green nail polish, I used New Money by Loreal
-An orange polish, I used Sun Kissed by Sally Hanson's Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear line
-A black nail striper, Mine is from the Kiss Nail Art line
-And then of course a topcoat if you'd like, I use Essie's Good to Go Topcoat

Using these three colors, paint a base towards the back of your nail to the front, but you don't need to worry about covering the whole nail. Alternate fingers with different colors, until each finger has one of the colors on them.

I know my plain old nails don't look the greatest, but don't pay attention to them! Lol. Once you have the base color on towards the back of the nail, choose another color, different then the base of course, and make a line or a patch a different way, leaving some of the base showing. Again, you don't have to cover the whole nail, just the part where you want your next patch to be. This is not a precise step, this is where the creative part comes out of you and starts making patches in different ways. I know you have that creativeness in you, use it!

I just went completely random with mine and hoped for the best. It looks better when there isn't a consistent pattern on each nail. Now from here, keep alternating colors on different fingers and make different patches to finish them off so that the entire nail is covered with polish. Your patches DO NOT have to be perfect, the whole point is to have fun, not get frustrated because it's not working out. You got dis gurl! Go diagonally, sideways, vertically, wavy, whatever floats your boat.

Now this is where it gets tricky and you need that steady hand. Since, we have all of the nails covered in some way or another, you are going to want to get your black nail striper and carefully draw lines in between all of the colors to seperate where they divide.

Don't worry if it isn't perfectly straight, nobody is going to notice that flaw but you missy. Now comes time for the stitching. Go ahead and grab the striper again and VERY carefully draw on stitch marks on all of the black lines, keep them small to make the stitch look work.

And there you have it! Stitched up nails. This is the look before the top coat, so it's not as shiny and you can really see all the different layers of the polishes, which is why I always strongly suggest using a topcoat, it blends and smooths everything together nicely.

This one never fails me! :)

Voila!! The final look all polished and shiny and adorable! Go ahead and give your shot at it and send me photos of your nails! I would love to see them!

Breast Cancer Awareness Nails Tutorial!

Hello everybody! It's a gloomy, rainy day where I live today, but that didn't stop me from showing some pink pride! A friend on Facebook sent me a link of these nails that somebody else had done, and so I went ahead and tried to do my version of them. They aren't as perfect as the original, but I LOVE them because they are cute and fun.

Minion Nails!! What better way to show some pink pride then to use adorable pink minions! So, in this tutorial I am going to show you how you can achieve these amazing nails. :)

These are the nail polishes and tools that you will need:
-A light pink, mine was Formula X in Brazen
-A darker pink, I used Mod Square by Essie
-Any white polish, I used my White On by Sally Hanson's Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear line
-A grey polish, preferably a lighter shade, but I only had a darker shade. I used Cashmere Bathrobe by Essie
-Any Black polish, I used Formula X in Dark Matter
-The largest dotting tool, mine is the green one
-The absolute smallest dotting tool, mine is the pink one
-And lastly I would suggest using a topcoat, my all time go to is Essie's Good to Go top coat

                                                              Now let's begin!!

Go ahead and grab the light pink color and paint a base coat on your nails, do a couple layers to make it opaque. I ended up only having to use two.

After you have that base coat on, grab the darker pink polish and make a little square about 3/4 of the way down your nail to the tip, leave space on both sides of your nail next to the square at the tip.

I know it's hard to tell in the above picture, but I did leave enough space on both sides of the square. Next I started working on the eyes. Grab the largest dotting tool and the grey polish and make eyes on each of the nails, I did one-eyed nails and two-eyed nails like many of the minions have. Make the grey circle big enough because you have to put two more dots within it. These are going to the goggles.

After I had the grey on to show the goggles, I went ahead and used the white nail polish and the same green dotting tool to make the whites of the eyes.

To finish off the eyes, take your black nail polish and the smallest dotting tool and make their eyeballs, I made my little guys all looking different ways.

Alright, now that all the basic stuff is done, it's time to get into that detail work! I started by finishing off the goggles. I used the small dotting tool and the black polish and carefully drew lines from the goggles on each side to the sides of my nails.

Time for the mouths. :) Again using the same small dotting tool and the black, carefully draw on the mouths. I did two different styles, some I gave closed mouths, and some had open mouths. For the open mouths, I just used the dotting tool to create the outline of the open mouth and then just filled it in.

To finish off the open mouth details, I took my light pink polish and the small dotting tool and made the tongues in the mouth. For the teeth I used the smallest dotting tool again and the white polish and carefully dotted on four tiny teeth for each mouth.

Next I finished the little minion suits. I grabbed the dark pink polish and the small dotting tool and drew lines from the top corners of the squares up diagonally toward the sides of my nails to make it look like the minion suit was wrapped around their shoulders. Then, in each corner I dotted a tiny dot where the straps connect to the suit to signify buttons.

Now the actual minions are all done! But to finish my look I added the Breast Cancer Awareness ribbons to the suits. This part was a little difficult so if you decide that you don't think you can do the ribbons, that's okay, your minions will still end up looking adorable and they still show that pink pride. :) For the ribbons I, again, used the smaller dotting tool and CAREFULLY drew/dotted on the ribbon on each nail. It took me a couple tries to get the right method down and I had to redo one nail twice, so don't worry if the first time didn't work out, just be patient, remove the part you screwed up with a q-tip, and try again. It just takes some practice.

Mine aren't even perfect, so don't worry if yours are a little shaky! They still look cute and if you finish with a top coat, it will help to smooth over all the different layers and take a little bit of that shaky look away.
.

And there you have it! The finished look. :) Now these were the tools of choice that I used because they just seemed easier to use than nail stripers because I had more precise control over them, but use whatever tools you feel comfortable using.

Thank you so much for reading this tutorial and I hope that you enjoyed it! I had a lot of fun doing these nails so I hope that you will try them out and love them too! Don't forget that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and even though October is almost over there's still time to show that pink pride to show your support! Tips to keep your nails Healthy and B-E-A-Utiful!

Did you know that there IS a proper way to take good care of your nails? If not then be sure to read this post because you will see that proper care for your nails is a super important thing to do. I am going to show you what tools and things you need to do in order to keep those nails healthy and beautiful.

A good way to help keep nail polish on longer is to keep those nails healthy as can be. This involves a number of different things you should be doing. You want to take care of your nails like you would take care of your hair. You don't like greasy hair or split ends do you? I'm gonna share some tips on how to give proper care for your nails as well.

Start by removing any nail polish you have with a NON-acetone base polish remover. Polish removers with acetone can do damage to your nails over time and it is best to use non-acetone remover for your nails.

Then if you would like, clip your nails to whatever length you want them to be. Do NOT bite your nails. If you are guilty of doing this you need to kick that bad habit to curb. I myself used to be a nail biter, but I am so happy that I stopped because I would get hang nails all the time, I would accidentally bite too close to my nail base and it would cause bleeding. So, keep your nails away from those teeth and always have nail clippers available. Invest in a key chain one if you need to so you'll always have it on the go.

This tool is another way to keep those nail healthy and beautiful. It is super important to take care of your cuticles, they can cause hangnails and can get infected. All sorts of bad stuff can happen to them. An easy way to keep your cuticles under control is to use a cuticle pusher and a cuticle trimmer on them. Use the cuticle pusher to push back the cuticle at the base of your nail. Then using the cuticle trimmer you just glide it carefully along the cuticle line and it will get rid of any excess cuticle there may be. You can also use different cuticles oils to rub onto your cuticles as well to keep them healthy. With cuticles pushed back and out of the way, it makes it much easier to apply nail polish starting at the base of  your nail as well.

One last step that is important to do to keep those nails healthy is to buff, file, smooth those ridges and then smooth the nail itself. i would highly suggest in buying a buffer block. They sell these just about everywhere. Walmart, Meijer, Walgreens, and my personal favorite store, Target.  It has numbers on all four sides of the block to tell you what order to do them in. First is the nail file, this is pretty self explanatory, you just file the ends of your nails to make them smooth and not jagged. Then you go to side number two which is smoothing any ridges you have on your nail. You rub the side horizontally across your nail to smooth down those ridges. Time to buff it up now! Take side three and buff it across your nails to make them even smoother. And lastly smooth those nails to finish. This will make your nails look nice and shiny! :)

I really hope this post helped you out a bit in learning how to take good care of your nails! Make sure to follow me and share this post to all of your friends! I would really appreciate it. Leave some comments if you have any ideas of nail art tutorial you would like me to do or any comments or questions you have for me! Stay tuned because tomorrow there will be a blog on how to prevent those annoying nail polish things that happen. Having air bubbles, peeling, chipping? I have all the answers for how to fix that tomorrow!!

Frankenstein Nails

Since it's getting closer and closer to Halloween, I was feeling festive and decided to do some Halloween nails to get in the right mood for Halloween. So what better way to do so then Frankenstein nails!

So, to begins let's start with getting the supplies that are needed for this design:

For this design you will need: A green base coat, I used Loreal's New Money. Any white nail polish, I used Sally Hansen's Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear in the color White On. A black nail striper. And I would suggest using a topcoat, my personal favorite is Essie's Good to Go topcoat.  The tools you will need include two of the nail dotters. I used to largest dotter, and the second largest dotter.

Start by painting your nails with the green base coat. I used three layers to get my nails opaque.

Next I took the black nail striper and I very carefully painted on the hair of Frankenstein. This requires a steady hand and don't worry if it doesn't look perfect. The whole point of this design is to be messy and fun. I made a thick line at the top following the curve of my nail, then used the striper to make little triangle outlines for the hair and filled them in.

For the whites of the eye, I used the largest nail dotting tool and dipped it in my white nail polish and carefully dotted on two eyes for each nail, I made sure they were kind big so that you could still see them well under the black.

Using the second largest nail dotting tool, I dipped my dotter into my black nail polish and dotted on two black dots on top of the white dots to create the eyes.

Using the black nail striper again, carefully paint on the mouth. Make a line across where their mouth would be horizontally, and paint 3-4 vertical lines to create the stitched mouth look. Again this doesn't have to be perfect.

To finish it off put a top coat on!

And Walla!! Beautiful, fun, creative Frankenstein nails that's everybody will love :)

Thanks so much for looking at my tutorial, be sure to follow me!
                                                                                                                             Xoxo <3 Krysti
